Brixton Cycles Club Dernyfest Presents: 2024 National Derny Championship (Open) & Women's Support Omnium

Track , London – Saturday, 18 May 2024

Event Summary

Event Overview

One of the most popular races on Herne Hill Velodrome's calendar, and one of the few opportunities to race behind a Derny throughout the course of the season!

New for 2024: The Dernyfest is this year's National Derny Championship. Who will take home the Red, White and Blue stripes?

Entrants to both the Dernyfest and Women's Omnium will need to hold a valid British Cycling Race License.

DERNYFEST:

National Championship Eligibility

Riders must hold a valid Race license

Riders must be a UK citizen

Riders Nationality on their race license must be listed as 'GBR'

Entrants for the Dernyfest are expected to have full race accreditation at Herne Hill Velodrome or one of the following velodromes:

  • Derby Arena

  • National Cycling Centre Velodrome, Manchester

  • The Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales, Newport

  • Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome (Emirates Arena), Glasgow

  • Calshot Activities Centre

Experience riding behind a Derny is also required. The coaching team at Herne Hill will be running Derny practice sessions leading up to the event, so those without experience are still able (and encouraged!) to enter.

Please enter the name of your preferred pacer when you enter. If you do not have a preferred pacer at the time of signing up, please put "N/A" in the pop-up when signing up.

Race Format:

There will be 3 qualifying heats, 20 laps each:

- top 3 progress to the National Championship Race (60 laps),

- 3rd-6th to B final (30 laps)

- Rest to C final (20 laps)

REST OF THE WORLD EXHIBITION RACE

To avoid alienating our international cohort of riders who race regularly at the Velodrome - you are invited to email race.secretary@brixtoncycles.cc and express interest in the 'Rest of the World' race that we will run on the day

WOMEN'S OMNIUM

Entrants to the Women's Omnium will need to hold Herne Hill Race Accreditation or full Accreditation at any of the velodromes listed above.

The omnium has been a consistent highlight of the women’s track calendar. Regularly attracting a full field of both local riders and those looking to make their mark in the national scene, the racing is the perfect mix of bunch races and solo efforts, so even those not at the pointy end of the overall standings will still have a chance to get PBs or test themselves against the clock for the first time.

Race format

16 lap Scratch Race

Elimination

20 lap Points Race (sprints every 4 laps, double points on last lap, points count to overall omnium total)
