Scottish Borders Under 18s XC Race at Galashiels Academy

MTB XC , Galashiels – Saturday, 05 Oct 2019

Event Summary

Event Overview

Event Overview:

Championship Day.

The event will consist of a skills test followed by an off road race.

Race entry is only available to those riders enrolled in a school within the local authority region of The Scottish Borders. These may be state or privately run schools. Races will be split by (2019/2020) school year. If your child is in a composite class, they will race in their school enrolment year.

I.E. a P4/5 who would otherwise be in P5 will race P5 etc.

This is a grass roots (Go-Ride Race) cross country event held at Galashiels Academy and the Galashiels Policies.

The trails for the race will be a mix of grass, dirt paths and single track trail. Riders will need to be confident riding in a group and on uneven ground. A bicycle in good working order will be required, it must have two working brakes, tyres suitable for mud. Although gears are not essential the course has been designed for mountain bikes with 5 or more gears and includes relatively steep hills.

Riders may be out of sight from marshals for short period during the race. For this reason, riders under primary 3 are not permitted in the championship event.

Based on an accumulation of points from the skills test and race places for the top 3 boys and girls in each year group will be awarded with trophies or prizes.

Top girl and boy in each year group will be the 'Live Borders regional champion'.

School Championships: Points are awarded to all finishers within every race / skills test and the school with the most points wins the Scottish Borders XC Championship Trophy. There is one trophy for high school, currently held by Peebles High School and there is one trophy for primary schools, currently held by Priorsford Primary School. The presentation for this may take place at school after the event.
