Emma Pooley
D.O.B.: 03/10/1982
Hometown: Norwich
Current residence: Zurich
Disciplines: Endurance Podium - Time Trial and Road Race
Current Team: AA Drink–leontien.nl
Career Highlights:
I will always remember my first road race win, the Rund um Schönaich in Germany in 2007. Getting a silver medal in Beijing in 2008 and winning the world championship time trial in Geelong in 2010 were the absolute highlights. And winning the Tour de l’Aude in 2010 was utterly wonderful, because it was such a fantastic team effort.
About Emma:
Emma began cycling at University in order to cross train because of a running injury, and after finishing in fourth place at the 2005 National Championships she signed up to Team Fat Birds UK.
Emma first represented Great Britain in 2007 in the Road World Championships where she finished 8th in the Road Race and 9th in the Time Trial.
2008 brought success for Emma, starting off with her win in the Trofeo Alfredo Binda UCI Road World Cup in Italy. Next stop for Emma was the 2008 Beijing Olympics which saw her take the Silver medal in the Time Trial. In the road race, Emma’s strength and climbing skills were integral in whittling down the competition and helping team mate Nicole Cooke take the Gold medal.
Since then, Emma has racked up the wins on an International level and in 2010 she was crowned as the Time Trial World Champion in the Geelong, Australia. Emma continued to perform consistently during 2011, winning the prestigious Tour de l’Ardeche and finishing second in the Giro Donne, before going on to win Bronze in the World TT Championships on a flat course (Emma prefers climbs) in the rain.
