Taunton Vale Cross/South West Cyclo-Cross League Round 2
Location: Wellington, Somerset
Event: 15 September 2013
Report: Snowdon Sports

Steve Davies (Hargroves Cycles) showed he will be a force to be reckoned with again this season by taking his second victory of the season in round two of the South West League in Wellington.

The hard ground and freshly cut grass set the scene for a very fast and furious days racing.

For the main race the course was one for the riders who knew how to race in a pack and to use people as shield from the wind.

A fairly high paced, open course that started off dry, but turned into a slippery 'corner fest' near the end as the weather turned for the worse.

This made for exciting and entertaining racing through the technical twisty off camber sections.

Davies, 53 and from Bideford, used his years of experience to great effect winning ahead of

Sherborne’s Kamden Reedy who claimed second some 30 seconds behind.

Exeter rider James Davey had a great ride in his first year as a senior rider to claim third place.

Newly formed Plymouth CX RT had a large showing of riders and took the first women prize with Amy Gallache.

The under-12s race kicked off the day’s proceedings with Freddie Birchill (MDCC) winning overall.

Honours for the under-10s race were taken by Jack Webb (1st Chard Wheelers) and for the U8s it was Edward Ayres (Alltrax).

The Youth Race was dominated by a battle between the top under-14 and under-16 riders with the younger Harry Birchill beating Charlie Meredith (both MDCC club members) to the line.
