Pedalsport 2012 Summer Series Round 8
Location: Brighouse High School
Event: 25 July 2012

Round eight of the series was at a new venue for Yorkshire, held at Brighouse High School, with grass fields, tricky descents, off camber sections, energy sapping climbs and a sand pit the course made for an interesting race.

Carr was the leader from the gun but took a corner at high speed and crashed which caused a puncture and had to withdraw from the race, this seemed to set the scene for the race with plenty of riders taking tumbles and having mechanical problems. From the first lap, a group of five formed which included Taylor, Peace, Barnes, Smith and Warden. It looked like this would be how it would stay as no one rider could break from the group. However, on lap four it all changed when all five riders had separated from each other with a small gap between each of them with Taylor at the front from there he pushed ahead taking a few seconds each lap on Peace to eventually finishing with a thirty second lead. The top four managed to hold their position but Warden quickly dropped back and was eventually caught by the chasing riders. Johnson was on his own between the top five and a group of seven behind, he was caught and a group of four formed made up of  Seal, Crabtree, Cooper and Johnson. Seal had an incident with a bush and dropped out of the top ten which left three to real Warden in which, they did going into the last lap. Crabtree and Warden got away from the group and it was left to a sprint finish to decide fifth place which Crabtree took. Victoria Wilkinson took another win in the Women’s category finishing an impressive thirteenth overall.

Under 14

Matt Taylor was the early leader in the under 14 race but Thomas Nelson came through to take the lead and held on for three laps till Taylor went back into the lead and took the win. Behind the top two the fight was on for the next three spots, Scott was found the off camber decent with a sharp turn at the end hard to negotiate and was lost time to Jacob Feetham and Jim Brown each lap. He had to work hard each lap to work his way back, eventually finishing in fourth.
