With MPs set to debate the Cycling and Walking Delivery plan in the House of Commons next week, British Cycling is calling on anyone who is passionate about cycling in this country to write to their local MP and urge them to support the plan’s proposals.

British Cycling’s campaigns manager, Martin Key, said:

“It’s absolutely vital that anybody who cares about the future of cycling in Britain urges their MP to not only attend the debate but also support the recommendations included in the Get Britain Cycling report.

“Britain is now one of the most successful cycling nations in the world at elite level but still only accounts for 2% of journeys in this country. Until we embed it as an everyday part of British culture this won’t change.

“Next year’s general election is the biggest chance that we have to get the political parties to make a commitment to Get Britain Cycling and we can’t miss this opportunity.”

British Cycling, led by policy adviser Chris Boardman, is urging government to commit sustained levels of funding calling for a spend of £10 a head to turn Britain into a cycling nation to rival countries like Denmark and the Netherlands.
