Event: 3-4 August 2013

The 2013 British BMX Series finale takes place in Gosport this weekend less than seven days after Liam Phillips’ superb victory at the BMX world championships.

Phillips will understandably not be racing as the series winners across a number of age categories are crowned in Hampshire following nine rounds of racing action spanning back to March.

Curtis Manaton, a teammate of Phillips’ in the Great Britain setup, wrapped up the elite men’s title with victory in round seven at Platt Fields Park. The British Cycling Olympic Academy Programme rider has won four rounds thus far with riders’ best seven results counting to their final total.

Manaton has distanced Kyle Evans in second, the latter having travelled to New Zealand with Great Britain for the world championships where he exited in the moto stages.

The nineteen-year-old will be absent in Gosport allowing Great Britain Academy colleagues Grant Hill and Dan McBride in third and fourth respectively to close the gap in the battle for the podium places.

Hill took his only win at round five at Perry Park in Birmingham while McBride has yet to record a victory in this year’s competition.

The championship women’s category has also been decided. Great Britain Olympic Development Programme rider Charlotte Green, who impressed to reach the semi finals at the Papendal UCI BMX Supercross, won rounds six and seven at Platt Fields to further her ascendancy in this year’s competition.

Green has won a total of three rounds and sits 86 points clear of Bethany Shriever in second with Joey Gough making up the top three.

Shriever and Gough have both come close to taking a round win and will hope they can sign off with strong performances, particularly as Green is currently not listed to start while Shanaze Reade and Abbie Taylor continue to recover from injury.

Though the two elite categories have been settled, there are a number of permutations in other categories as to who will end where in the final standings.
