Birmingham National 2012 2012 Series Overview With the 2012 World Championships taking place in May 2012, British Cycling and the BMX Commission have taken steps to ensure high quality winter racing is available to all BMX riders. Rounds 1 through to 3 will take place at Manchester’s new indoor track. There will be Supercross racing on each Saturday evening with some of Europe’s finest riders already confirming their attendance for January’s event. New to the national racing circuit, Perry Park in Birmingham will host the rounds 4 and 5 which are the last rounds prior to the World Championships. The event will also have the added incentive of the UCI point scoring Elite and Junior National Championships. Perry Park is without doubt one of the best track in the UK with a covered 5m start hill and 2 of the most technically demanding straights, there’s something for everyone. The remaining 6 rounds will all be held outdoors at Braintree in Essex, Derby and the series finale at Peterborough. Braintree proved to be as popular as ever in 2011, which is easy to understand with one of the best looking tracks on the circuit and not to mention the best and most enthusiastic club you could ask for. We’ll be back at Derby after an absence in 2011. Derby’s proved to be a great foundation club with a great team, an excellent coaching set up and outstanding support from local sponsors such as Haro Bikes. Peterborough provides one of the oldest tracks at national level, but with a modern thinking club and an ever improving and technical track, Peterborough was still able to provide 2011’s best attended event, which shows how popular the track is. A rider’s best 7 results out of the 11 races will count towards the end of season British BMX Series standings. British BMX Championships Once again, Broadway House in Cheddar will host the biggest domestic event on the calendar on September 22-23. Cheddar’s excellent facilities and revamped track proved a hit in 2011, and it really provides the perfect setting for this prestigious event. Riders wishing to take part in this event will have to qualify via your 2012 Regional Series. Due to the size of the event, camping pitches must be booked in advance via Broadway House. |
