LIVE: UCI BMX World Cup Round 4

Results: Qualifcation Men - Women | Finals Men - Women | Start Lists: Men - Women

Liam Phillips made his second World Cup main of 2010 in Frejus - the final round of the UCI BMX World Cup.

A large contingent of British riders made it to the south of France, but only Marcus Bloomfield, Phillips and Abbie Taylor would make it out of the time trials and into the knockout stages.

Bloomfield was best British rider in 27th with a 32.669, outqualifying British Cycling Team rider Liam Phillips, who finished in 32.781 and 31st spot - despite some bike issues.

Abbie Taylor travelled independently and proved she has enough to ride in the World Cup - posting a 38.709 and getting through in the second block of riders.

The British Cycling Olympic Development Programme rider didn't make it through the opening heats, but did have an encouraging fourth-place-finish in the process; a key indication of potential and surely good motivation for off-season training.

In the men's event both Bloomfield and Phillips made it easily through the heats and into the quarter finals, before facing off in the semis.

All day it seemed Bloomfield was underpowered from the gate and while Phillips had the power, his mid-pack position did nothing to help matters. Coming into turn one, Bloomfield took the inside and Phillips the outside - both hoping for carnage and a ticket into the finals.

That plan came good, as in the soft dirt turns there was some carnage. Unfortunately it wasn't enough destruction for both riders to go through, and in the second straight Phillips was able to carry more speed, taking Bloomfield out of contention for his first finals appearance of 2010.

Phillips progressed into the final, but another central position in the gate and an average start resulted in a busy race. Turn one was tackled in seventh position - and worse was to come at the end of the second straight.

There was no clear camera angle, but what we do know is that Phillips went down hard and was out of the race, which was eventually won by Olympic and World Champion Maris Strombergs.

If you missed the live coverage of the race, we'll have a full action replay soon.
