Following the release of the 2012 Olympic selection documents for nations by the UCI, British BMX has been guaranteed two spots for the London Games should they not qualify a maximum of three men and two women through the points system.
The two places have been given to the host nation, but Britain can still qualify up to three places on UCI Rank by nation.
Nations ranked from 1-5 qualify three men, nations ranked 6-8 qualify two men and nations ranked 9-11 qualify one male athlete.
Women's qualification is decided by the nations ranked 1-4 qualifying four riders, and those 5-7 qualifying one rider each.
The rankings by nation are determined by the position of the three best male and three female riders from each nation in the UCI BMX ranking for the period from May 6 2010 to May 28 2012 for World Championships and the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup. And for the period August 1 2010 to May 28 2012 the remaining events on the calendar including the continental championships, International Classic events and International events, and finally national championships.
The rankings by nation at the World Championships are determined by the position of the best male/female riders of each nation in the elite men's final/elite women's final of the 2012 UCI BMX World Championships as of May 28, 2012.
