Cross: Pugh wins Welsh League event at Haverfordwest

Cycletec rider Jonathan Pugh secured victory in the third round of the Welsh Cyclo-Cross League, staged by Pembrokeshire Velo at Clerkenhill Farm in Haverfordwest on Sunday.

Rain held off but riders had to battle into a strong wind across the lower part of the new and testing course.

Andrew Baum (Cwmcarn Paragon) led early on but was one of several to puncture and Pugh took to the front, holding on to a slender lead ahead of David Thomas (mtb-marathon.co.uk) with Baum closing back up to third.

Fifth-placed Mark James (Team Jewson was the best of the veterans, while Dan Colman (West Wales Cycle Racing) was best junior and Ruby Miller (Torq Performance) best of the women.
