Website Development Update
10 August 2010
June this year saw the launch of new British Cycling, Scottish Cycling and Welsh Cycling websites and a shared underpinning system encompassing membership, events, results and rankings.
British Cycling embarked on this significant redevelopment because existing systems were at the end of their lifespan and could not support the current growth of the organisation.
Unfortunately British Cycling has experienced difficulties with the external company responsible for this redevelopment work. These were compounded by the limitations of the old membership and events services system and website, which had to be switched off, forcing a premature but unavoidable move to the new system.
British Cycling is now in the process of moving the whole development operation in-house. Fixes and new developments are being uploaded on a regular basis and the websites and underpinning business system will continue to be developed and refined over the coming months.
British Cycling's Chief Executive, Ian Drake, said: "I'd like to apologise to our members for the inconvenience caused by the recent problems and assure members that British Cycling is committed to overcoming them as soon as possible. Despite the frustrations of recent weeks, membership growth has continued to accelerate since the launch of the new site and I am excited by the plans we have to further develop the online and membership services we offer to members."
