South West Springtime Pursuits

Saturday 21st February, 2004; No 2

STARTERS: 65:
It was a Team Alcan benefit in the South West Pursuit number 2 in Devon today. In very windy conditions, a headwind to start with, the first two groups came together after only 9 of the 30 miles as the headwind cause them problems and after 15 miles, the third group on the road also managed to make their way to the front of the race. It wasn't until 20 miles had gone by that the scratch group caught the rest leaving 10 miles for them all to sort out who was going to win.

After Team Alcan tried to get away it was Tim Pigula who managed get the gap and went away alone, making hay while the wind was at his back but into the headwind he was soon caught and at the prime, the pressure from Greg Sandy was too much for his team Adrian Sluman who left Greg to solo on to a fine victory with another Alcan rider Neil Coleman in 2nd and last weeks winner, Jules Birks in 3rd.
