LATEST RESULTS FOR DAY 3 (GB ONLY)

It was another good day for the riders from the Great Britain Cycling Team as they continued to rack up the qualifying points for the World Championships in Melbourne later this year. Best results was the Team Sprint where the GB team finished 2nd to World Champions Germany. After qualifying 2nd fastest, in the final, Craig did his stuff for the opening lap whilst Olympic Kilo champion Jason Queally completed the second lap and then to finish off, Chris Hoy did the final lap, saying afterwards "I rode a storming last lap and am very happy with my ride".

Just as pleasing was the result by the Downing brothers in the Madison. The British champions were brought into the squad to help qualify the team a place for the World Championships and a 4th place in the final will have gone a long way to doing that and the two boys, with little expereince at this level in World Cups, rode out of their skins to prove to the world they could cut it at this level. Their winter in Australia obviously paid dividends.

In the Womens Scratch race, Vicki Pendleton who rode well in the Sprint and 500 Metres TT, finished a disapointing 21st in the Scratch event but having already qualified for the Worlds in the Sprint, the World Cup has already been a great success for her. Vicki was on the 'right' wheel with a lap and half to go when another rider fell "over her back wheel", forcing Vicki to the bottom of the track and although not falling, it did ruin any chance Vicki had of qualifying a place for GB at the Worlds although she did enough to know that she has the ability to do it given a little luck which she is now due after the incident in Moscow.

The team fly home tonight and will no doubt be relieved to be back on home soil.
