British Cycling National Circuit Race Championship -- MEN
Russell Downing wins the Mens National Criterium title, taking the jersey from his older brother Dean who was 2nd in a 1-2 for the Downings. Russell showed yet again that he has the legs to beat the best as he crashed with 8 laps to go but after being given a lap out and set off with the lead he had at the time of the crash/puncture, he kept it all the way to the line despite blood pouring out of a knee wound. It was an awesome win, one of two for him on the weekend. It was his 3rd title of the year. Not bad for someone who had retired at the start of theyear. Thanks for the memories Russell! Great race... Sunday 14th of September 2003, Llandudno (Wales)

Defending champion Dean Downing beats an inform Bryan Taylor to take silver behind his brother Russell. I hope you don't mind me saying Deano but there were tears in his eyes on the podium so pleased was he for his younger bro!
Julian Winn got away at the end to try and reel in the duo of Downing and Taylor but failed to do having to settle for 4th.
The bunch gallop and my rider of the day (besides Fonzy (Russell)!) was James Taylor (Far left). I witnessed the excrutiating pain he was in only a few weeks ago at the National Track Championships after a bad fall left him in hospital with a broken collarbone (2nd time this year) and broken ribs. And he was, ribs still broken, collarbone strapped up, sprinting for fifth place! At least he can now enjoy (sort of) his holiday in Cornwall....
