Devon and Cornwall Cyclo-X Points League

Race report for the Third round of the Devon and Cornwall Cyclo-X Points League -- Roy Smith (Event Organiser)

The third round of the Devon and Cornwall Cyclo-X Points League moved to Newnham Park and was run off under dry/warm conditions apart from the chilly blustery breeze. In the Senior race Andy Gordon (Mid Devon) was back in the fold and from the gun set about stringing the field out. On the starting loop the field were soon spread out and no real breaks appeared until the long 20 metre run up, Andy Gordon was at ease as he sprinted up the climb gaining a handful of seconds on Roy Smith (Team Training FX - www.bike-cellar.com), Chris Edwards (Team Training FX) and Andy Shaw (Exeter Wheelers).

As the riders came out of the wooded section Andy Gordon was still holding his advantage with Roy Smith now alone in second place, and Andy Shaw and Chris Edwards sharing the work load behind. As the race went on Nick Lumb (Exeter Wheelers) and Tim Fey (Unatt) moved up the field, with Nick Lumb moving into second spot, as Roy Smith had to withdraw with a puncture. Andy Gordon continued with his fast pace at the front as did Nick Lumb to claim first and second respectively. Behind it was not so clear cut with Tim Fey winning the sprint finish for third from Andy Shaw. Chris Edwards completed the top five.
