Mildenhall CC Off-Road Championships
This year's Mildenhall CC Off-Road Championships came down to a contest
between club officials as Membership Secretary Dave Bowers beat Club
Secretary Mandy Cook by just 1 point!
Eight seniors and three under 18's took part in the competition this
year, which comprises 12 events, with 8 counting for points. Nine were
mass starts held on circuits in various places in the forest, combining
a mixture of fire routes and singe tracks; some were quite testing with
bomb holes to negotiate. One known as 'the rough ride' is held against
the clock on a 25 mile route from Barnham to Icklingham in a loop using
parts of the Icknield Way. Two other events were held, again against
the clock, one up hill and the other down hill.
Mildenhall CC celebrated its Golden Jubilee this year with a variety
of cycling events including a circuit time trial, charity ride and cyclocross
race. The year culminated in an anniversary reunion with 150 current
and ex members attending.
