Round 3 of the East Midlands Premier Series

Sunday 16th November; Bramcote Park, Sponsored by Long Eaton Cycle Centre and Jim Steel Motors

Beeston RC were the organisers of Round 3 of the East Midlands Premier Series on Sunday 16th November. The venue was Bramcote Park, which has hosted many Notts and Derby events and also Round 2 of the series last year. The event was sponsored by Long Eaton Cycle Centre and Jim Steel Motors. On a dry and quite mild day, a disappointing field of only 16 riders contested the main race. With the leading two in the Series on International Duty, all eyes were on last years Series winner Danny Alexander(Matlock CC) and it was Alexander along with Shaun Snodden(JE James) who were forcing the pace on the first lap.

Only Ben Eedy(Team Bradgate) and Noel Clough(Caygill Frames) being able to keep in contact. After a lap and a half Snodden had managed to force a gap of 20seconds on Alexander and Clough with Eedy feeling the pressure and dropping back. It was to stay like this until the fifth lap when Snodden upped the pace again and increased his lead to 30seconds while Clough had managed to drop Alexander up one of the steep climbs. Meanwhile Jim Bryan(Ace RT) and Andy Key(Ashfield RC) had passed Eedy into 4th and 5th, Eedy who seemed to be having an off day, decided enough was enough and climbed off.

Snodden maintained his 30seconds gap until the finish of the 8 lap race, with Clough in second. Finishing in 3rd place was enough for Alexander to take the overall lead in the Series with only one round remaining on the 21st December at Osmanton Park in Derby. The earlier supporting race for Juniors, Veterans and Women was a tight affair with the first four all within one minute of each other. In the end it was Junior Paul Cox(Melton Olympic) who gained the victory over his older rivals. David Stevens(Leeds Premier) was only 12seconds adrift at the end, with Mick Rowson(Rutland CC) coming in 3rd place.

The women’s race, which incorporated the 3rd Round of the WRCA National Series, was won by the series leader Helen Saunders(James Hay RT) from American Sandy Meister-Meredith(Heanor Clarion).
