Sunday, May 25, 2003; E.1.2.3; 120km GARY BAKER, Angliasport, proved the fastest sprinter from the leading group of four at the end of a hard fought race on the Stewkley/Whitchurch circuit in Buckinghamshire. Tony Gibb (Team PCA-Orbea) was second over the line in the uphill finish, beating Andrew Young, (Python RT) and Richard Cartland, (Cycleweb.co.uk.) At the end of lap 3 of the 6 lap race the field was split into 3 groups under pressure from early animators George Richardson, (Cycl-ops Kona), Matt Bottrill (Racescene) and Grant Bayton (Angliasport). By lap 4 Bottrill, Richardson and Huw Pritchard (Angliasport) held a slender lead over the first half of the field with the remaining riders now at 1' 14". By the end of lap 5 however, Tony Gibb and Gary Baker, together with Young and Cartland had forced the race winning move and by the finish the quartet had a 39-second lead over the leading chasing group with a further 1'6" over the remnants of the bunch. 1.
