Hayes & Hawks Winter BMX Series Round 6

Hayes & Hawks Winter BMX Series Round 6, Tuesday; 28th. January 2003; Week 2Of 12 In First League 2003

Venue: Hayes BMX Track.
Report: Scott Dick

Around 40 riders came and battled at Round 6 of the Hayes and Hawks Winter
Series @ the Hayes BMX Track, and yes once again it was muddy.

I would say that 75% of the riders were novices again, with most of them only starting racing at the beginning of this series, back in October. The new rider numbers have increased little by little every race and they keep coming back for more. We must be doing something right ??

Also we keep seeing more older riders coming along and getting back into BMX
Racing, it was nice to see James Howe sign up and put Wycombe Wasps on his
registration card ??..His nice shiny Red Haro bike and kit did not stay clean for very long.

We had 2 gates of 30-39 cruiser/mtb at Slough the other week and a full gate this week and a full gate of 20-29 cruiser/mtb. The top 4 from each final had another final to see who was king of the big wheels, of course the younger fitter Oli Cave trounced the lot of them, and the paramedics supplied the oxygen to the runners up. All good clean, er! I mean muddy fun…Justin Esson also rode well,, and well , wot can I say about our very own Peter Kay lookalike Richard Mahon apart from Hayes does not really suit his style and physique, we could have found our new "Burger Boy"..

The Hawkers brothers from Dunstable came and paid a visit and rode excellently, both Michael and Robert got a 1st, think they will be back. The Hayes locals did themselves proud once again with Tyler Bowcobme 11 Novice and Travis Bowcombe 13 Novice coming first, but a mention has to go to Luke Cool 13 Novice in his first bmx race proper in giving Travis a run for his money. Craig Beck from Egham got the 3rd. Another Hayes local, Rikki Long also kept his winning streak going with a win in 10 Novice and is now leading his age group.

Kyle May 14 Novice and Phil Milson 16 Novice have given us good racing throughout the Winter Series and this one went right down to the last race when it was neck and neck down the last straight and Kyle just bobbled enough to let Phil take it on the line. Phil Milson is currently part of the British Cycling World Class Talent Team.

In 16+ Shaun Fry, Lewis Robinson, Gavin Little and Wayne Richardson all decided to have a go and had some fun in the bargain, Lewis Robinson took it after a great move on the last berm, after all the guys took a rest on the big doubles and then got a ready , steady go from me to re start them..good laugh all round..

It was another good race day and a chance for the riders to get out on their bikes and have some good competitive racing , even if the conditions are not perfect. Roll on the British Summertime ??.

The kids on the British Cycling World Class Talent Team from Hertfordshire will be taking part in our next race at Hayes on the 23rd Feb, where they will be hosting a BMX Camp with top Ex BMX'er and current MTB'er Scott Beaumont coming down to coach and help out along with fellow MTB'er Helen Mortimer, who is keen to have a go at BMX...Your bike awaits Helen !!..
