Cycling Results for 2003

CYCLING RESULTS ON BRITISH CYCLING.ORG.UK

There are two types of results for British Cycling events -- one, the results sent to British Cycling HQ by the race commisaires for ranking points to be allocated to the appropriate riders (this can take hours or weeks to happen depending on the commisaire), and two, the results gathered for inclusion on the British Cycling Website.

When it comes to road racing results here on British Cycling, we strive to provide you with as complete a results service as we can, as well as bring you those results as quickly as possible. In the main, the results are gathered independently of British Cycling headquarters.

What normally happens is that on the day of a race (weekends), British Cycling's Magazine editor, Larry Hickmott will attempt to ring the organiser of the race and get a result. Most of the time, it is possible to get a result in this manner, but there are times when the organiser has not supplied British Cycling with a contact telephone number or email address and so a result from that race is not included in this results service.

Or as I find quite often, the organiser does not know the result (honestly!) or does not answer their phone on the evening of the race, which means the result from that race is also missing from the results page and although it is frustrating for riders for their race not be included, it is just as frustrating (more so) for me trying to gather those results, not to be able to get them from some organisers.

Where possible, Organisers and/or Commisaires are asked to send me the results via email at the following address: larryhickmott@btopenworld.com. A number of the results we get arrive like this.

There will also be times, when it is not practical for me to call organisers on the day of a race such as when I am at a race and do not return home until late that evening. In that case, I will attempt to get what results I can later in the week where possible. In other words, although I will attempt to get the results ready for Monday morning, there will be times when this is not possible.

During the week, the gathering of results will also depend on the time I have available to chase organisers because processing other website material (such as news items, Great Britain reports and photos) can be time consuming.
