Dan Gordon

Events:
Kilo -Tandem Men - Dan Gordon ( pilot Barney Storey )

& Sprint Tandem Men - Dan Gordon ( pilot Barney Storey )

Dan currently works as lecturer in exercise physiology and sports science at Anglia Polytechic University in Cambridge. He gained his BSc in sports science from Northumbria Uni, following this with a Masters from Essex University in Colchester.

Dan is involved with the paralympic distance athletes (mainly visually impaired and cerebral palsy athletes competing at 5000m and above) as the team physiologist, as well as having carried out research with transatlantic rowers and ultramarathon runners, and sport science support to the ECB cricket academy in Cambridge.

He started his sporting career in swimming and athletics, performing to a high standard in both as a junior. As he got older he decided to concentrate on one or the other and athletics won out. With his athletics hero being Carl Lewis, it is no surprise that he plumped for the sprints and jumps.

He progressed from running the 400m sprint to specialising in high jump, long jump and triple jump. His performance at the European Blind Sports Athletics championships in Poland in 1999 earned him 2 bronze medals in high and triple jump, his best achievements up until then. Until the call of the tandem awoke, Dan's ambition was to participate in a paralympic athletics event, but it became more unlikely that his events would be included for his sight category.

In March 2002 Dan's parents, Roy and Margaret showed him Barney Storey's advert in Cycling Weekly. Both are keen and loyal members of the Solihull cycling club (where they originally met!). The rest as they say is history. Dan's ambition is now not just to participate in the paralympics - he won't be happy unless he comes home with a medal, preferably gold!
