2005 is going to be the best in a long while for major international competitions coming to Great Britain with no less than three UCI World Cups in Track, Women's Road and Mountain Biking disciplines. And then there is the Tour of Britain... The first of these will be the Manchester round of the UCI World Track Cup and the organisers have a World Cup 'Early Bird' Ticket Hotline now open.

Special offer Advance Tickets go on sale this week for the third round of the World Track Cup taking place at the Manchester Velodrome, between the 7th and 9th of January 2005. What better way to celebrate the new year than to witness many of the best riders in the World doing battle on the boards of Manchester to make sure of a place at the World Championships, not just for their country but themselves.

The rules on who gets to ride the Track Worlds have changed and whereas before it was down to countries to ensure they qualified places for their country, a new criteria has also been introduced where the riders also have to be of a sufficient ranking as well on points earned since May 31 this year. So a rider who did well at the Olympics is probably going to be okay as long as their country earns a place in a specific event for them at the Worlds but riders who didn't do so well, will have to do one or more Track Cups to ensure a ride in the biggest competition outside the Olympics, the Track Worlds.

Jamie Staff (Left of picture), just coming back from a rest after getting ill, gets in some valuable expereince in the Keirin Event lead here by Aussie Shane Kelly. At Manchester, GB's Jamie will be wearing the rainbow bands as World Champion!

Manchester is also pretty special for the Great Britain team. Its where many of them live and train and Manchester will be a golden opportunity for them to earn themselves and their country some ranking points for the Worlds and also perform in front of a home crowd. This year was special when many of our riders stepped up onto the podium to recveive gold medals. Now that alone has to be worth seeing but the racing was equally exciting showing live and up front how special our GB riders are.

Although the make up of the GB team can change right up to within three weeks of a World Cup, being a home tie, those booking to see the Manchester World Cup can expect to see many of our Olympic and World Championship heros racing including Bradley Wiggins, Chris Hoy and Jason Queally. Joining them will be Athens medal winners Rob Hayles, Chris Newton, Steve Cummings, Paul Manning and European Sprint Champion Ross Edgar - all of whom may well be taking part in the racing over the three days.
