ENTRY LEVEL RACING CLOSED ROAD
CIRCUITS ON 2004 JUST ADDED: Frequently Asked Questions (see below) With the advent of new membership categories in 2001, members now receive a provisional licence with either Gold, Silver or Bronze memberships, which allows access to entry level racing in British Cycling disciplines. There is now therefore the opportunity to offer such racing on closed road circuits as an introduction to the road discipline of the sport. Promoters of closed road circuit events may wish to consider promoting an event within their race programme, which can be open to provisional licence holders, non BC members and 4th category full licence holders who want to race at entry level. As no licence points are available for these events it would not be necessary to forward result cards to HQ, and promoters will be able to appoint a Commissaire from within their own club or organisation, or as the organiser you can Commissaire the event yourself if appropriate. With these events it is suggested that there is less need, or expectation from the riders, to provide a prize list (and subsequently there is less pressure on a promoter to provide judges) therefore entry fees can be lower than the norm. Where this event is the only one run that day under the banner of British Cycling then the event insurance fee due would be 23 per day of racing, with no permit fee to pay. The rider insurance levy would be payable (currently 1.50 per head), but no race levy would be due. In instances where this event is run in conjunction with others already registered with BC then no additional Event Insurance fee would be payable. This will provide a uniform, and nation-wide opportunity for entry level circuit racing for our members and potential members. NOTE: Promoters of such races, for those with only provisional racing licence, are asked to forward a press release to British Cycling so that news of these events can be publicised for the benefit of those wanting to take part. Email to either the press office (email) or Larry Hickmott (email) and a dedicated page for such events will be produced and linked to the British Cycling website. Frequently Asked Questions

quite easily by the organising contacting British Cycling Headquarters.
A GUIDE FOR ORGANISERS 1. Are there maximum and minimum distances for
such races? Answer: No. Maximum or Minimum distance is determined,
nor should there be. This will be left to each organiser.
2. Where can such races NOT be held -- on open
roads as I understand it? 3. Can you give me a practical idea
of what costs I as organiser will have to meet? 4. Does the organiser need to be a British

the British Cycling umbrella? Answer: The organiser would indeed need to be
member. No other rules really apply. The object is to keep things as
