Parrot Print/TAL Spotlight on Danny Axford

We finish the under the spotlight feature with Winchesters Danny Axford who has had a marvellous season by any standards. The very quiet, laid back and very intelligent Oxford postgraduate has very much been in the forefront of the teams efforts this year with 10 podium places including 3 very classy wins and a superb 2nd place overall in the Surrey 5 Day.

Danny came to the team two seasons ago though we had been chasing his signature a year earlier. As a junior Danny was one of the best in the UK and represented GB on a number of occasions. A certain David Millar was a team mate and training companion especially when living in France and whilst Millar furthered his cycling career Danny chose the academic route.

Despite his educational efforts including currently studying for a Doctorate, Danny still managed to keep training and racing and is to be applauded for all his achievements. With the frame of a whippet Danny takes a battering early season especially when cold but when the heat is on and the roads rear upwards then beware because Danny will generally fly. That said he did come unstuck this year in the Tour of the Peaks finishing for him a lowly 23rd. This did however, show that he was human because the following month he won a race and had a 2nd place and then 5th on GC in the Isle of Wight 2 day-everyone can have an off day!

With an equal 10th place in this years gruelling National Elite Championships, 11th overall in the Premier Trophy season long standings and winner of the British Universities Hill Climb Championship, Danny commands the respect of all his team mates.
