Program change for National Circuit Race Series at Hillingdon

Changes have been announced for the British Cycling National Criterium Series meeting on Saturday, 30 August at Hillingdon Circuit organised by BC West Thames Promotions with the particular help of the Hemel Hempstead CC.

The BC Criterium Series 80km race will start at 13.45hrs and will have a guaranteed prize list of at least 600, while the organisers are aiming to raise more through inviting clubs to donate primes. And if the entry is over 50 riders, then the excess over costs will be added to the prize list despite the need for an anticipated subsidy from BC West Thames funds.

Treasurers are careful about spending funds, But West Thames's Bob Spencer says: "This is our 'flagship' promotion and we feel it an appropriate use of funds which are also subsidising the series of eight women-only races on Friday evenings. Of course we hope that our regular riders will take the lion's share of the prizes, but everyone is welcome at Hillingdon."

The entry fee for the main race is 10 in advance or 12 on the day, with no extra registration charge. The race will be open to E/1/2/3 category riders, although it is anticipated that most 3rd category riders will prefer to ride the support race for 3/4/W/J categories. This will be over 45km, starting at 16.00hrs and the entry fee remains at 7, with a prize list of at least 100. It is hoped that riders will pre-enter to enable a programme to be produced.

The Youth races remain as previously listed in the BC Race Celendar, starting at 13.00hrs.

Event secretary Stuart Benstead says: "With no other events listed elsewhere for 30th August, and with an average of around 100 competitors for our Tuesday evening series, we are looking forward to a bumper turn-out of riders that day. It will be splendid spectacle for spectators who can see most of the circuit from the hill top.

Entries to S Benstead, 1 Brackendale Close, Hounslow, Middlesex TW3 4AZ.

Cheques should be payable to BC West Thames Promotions.
