WELSH CYCLING SEEK CARETAKER NATIONAL COACH

Welsh Cycling (the governing body for Cycle Sport in Wales) is seeking to appoint a Caretaker National Coach – to oversee the day to day running of the Elite Performance programme while a permanent National Coach is identified and appointed. This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic and appropriately qualified and experienced person to join us and make a real contribution to Welsh Cycling in this interim role.

The principle responsibilities of the post will be:

  • To devise and implement an international racing programme for Welsh Squad riders for the period of the first 6 months of 2004
  • To arrange and oversee a training camp for the Welsh Squad riders to take place in early Q1, 2004
  • In consultation with British Cycling, to launch a ‘Track Endurance’ performance development programme for the Welsh Squad riders in Q3, 2003.
  • To oversee the initial development of a programme for the use of the significant amount of time reserved for the Welsh Squad at the new National Wales Velodrome (due to be completed in early September)
  • The provision of training plans (in conjunction with the Sports Science staff at the Sports Council for Wales) to riders of the Welsh Squad
  • The screening and testing of riders new to the Elite Performance programme (with a views to augmenting the Welsh Squad).

To succeed in this role you will need to demonstrate a passion for cycle sport, excellent planning, organisation, interpersonal and communication skills and the enthusiasm to implement world’s best practice the development of riders to International level.
A NGB coaching qualification and significant experience and understanding of coaching, leadership and education of riders at International level are essential.

The post will be based at Newport (South Wales) – at the new Wales Cycling Centre.
The expected duration of this temporary post is 3 – 9 months
An attractive employment package is offered including:
Salary: negotiable – dependent upon qualifications and experience; includes an allowance for working unsocial hours (weekend and evening will be required as necessary) .
Holidays: 20 days per annum (pro rata),
