Triathlon success for Halesowens Matthew Halesowen A&CCs Matthew Bailey beat off strong competition from all over the Midlands, to win third place in his first ever triathlon a few weeks ago. The event at Wombourne, which combined a 150m swim, 3200m cycle ride and a 1200m run, saw the ten year old compete in the 11/12 yr category, making him the youngest competitor in his group. Keirin & Madison League, Halesowen A&CC, July 13, 2003 But, the ride of the day came from the Yasmitsu-Schapp entry for the Madison. Joby Ingram-Dodd and Ian George cruised to victory as they maintained the lead from a very early stage lapping the remaining riders. These included Halesowen A&CCs Alan Peet and Doug Williams who, despite a good effort, were not having a good day, and finished second. VC St Raphaels Jamie Streather grabbed the third place spot despite losing his partner, Halesowen A&CCs Jim Varnish, who sadly crashed during the warm-up. Ingram-Dodd maintained his form for the remainder of the day, winning both Keirin finals and coming second in the 24km scratch. The U-16 ride of the day came from Newcastle Road Clubs Daniel Snape, who as well as performing well in the Keirin League, won all U-16 categories, beating off regulars at the Friday Night Track League, such as Solihulls Mark Bell and Halesowen A&CCs Luke Hughes and Alex Tinsley. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Steve Pulford and Steve Glennon who collided together in a Keirin Heat and to Halesowen A&CCs Jim Varnish.
