Royal Sutton CC all set for 2003 The Royal Sutton Cycling Club are looking strong going into 2003, with all racing members looking to build on their achievements in 2002, after been recently buoyed by Andrew Poultons victory in the Christmas Road Race in Barrow on Soar.

This season Poulton will be looking to add a few more Road Race victories to his now growing collection.
Ride of 2002 in a Royal Sutton jersey came from Australian Matt Carmellotti who finished a superb 5th in the National Criterium Championships. Despite crashing mid race, he came back to beat top riders such as John Tanner and Mark Lovatt on the day. Mallory Park saw Carmellotti win on 4 separate occasions during the season long competition, only denied a 5th victory by Commonwealth Games Silver Medallist Huw Pritchard. He also won the Darley Moor 2 day event, winning 2 events and placing 2nd in the other, to take the overall title. For 2003, Matt predicts he may not get as much time to race with his wife expecting a baby in May.

Photo courtesy of www.veloriders.co.uk Track rider Adam Winstanley had his best season to date, his victory in the BC Junior West Midlands Track Championships was the highlight, however finishing 2nd in BC West Midlands Open sprint championships was a promising performance, as was his 2nd place overall in the BC National Junior Omnium League. Adam is looking to make an impact in the sprinters League next year, whilst placing at the National Track Championships, with the ultimate aim of becoming a member of the National Sprint Development Squad. Philip Bartleet had a fruitful 2002. The season started well for him, picking up several top 6 places in Elite Road Races in England, before going to race in France, where the highlight was 12th place in Grand Prix de la Quasimodo. This alerted several teams in France to chase his signature in 2003, with VCB Vire been the chosen team. Former Great Britain Junior Squad member James Cartwright has seen his last 2 years heavily disrupted by health problems. However now over these problems James is back training and looking for a successful season on the Road in the National U23 series and National U23 Championships, and is currently considering an offer to ride for a team in Eindoven, Holland once his University studies are completed in June.
