The Chiltern Classic Reliability Trials's start tomorrow with the 1st of 5 events over 5 weeks. The first of the five is run by the Team Quest and is a demanding 110km approx starting from the HQ at Ruislip Manor House & running out through the middle of the Chilterns through to Marlow, Stokenchurch, around High Wycombe & back to Ruislip. It kicks off at 9:30 and costs 3. The second event is run by the Hemel Hempstead CC & starts off from the Hemel Clubrooms and is a hard 100km route going out to the Chiltern Escarpement and includes the tough climbs of Chinnor Hill, the very steep (but thankfully short) Small Dean Lane, Speen Hill, Frith Hill before returning back to the Clubrooms. Starting at 9 am, the cost is 2.50, part of which will be going to Charities. A refreshment stop (optional) is available at the top of Small Dean Lane (about 60km) where a free tea & slice of cake can be consumed whilst you catch your breath! The 3rd event is the famous Harp RC hilly 100km that again starts from the Hemel Clubroom at 9am. The major difficulties are Bison Hill up to Whipsnade Zoo, Aston Hill (past the big Aston Hill MTB area) and then Ivinghoe Beacon. On the run back to the clubroom there is also the short, but steep, White Hill up to the village of Whelpley Hill. Costs again is 2.50. The 4th event gives a little breather from the previous hilly weeks with a somewhat flatter 100km Trial run by the Edgware RC starting from Denham Country Park. The route takes a twisting run out through the Thames Valley towards Marlow with only one or two bits requiring the little ring before heading back via Windsor & Langley to Denham. Cost is 2.50 Here again some of the entry fee will be passed on to Charities that will include the Dave Rayner Fund. The 5th & final event in this year's Chiltern Classics is the well known Willesden CC 100km Trial starting again from Ruislip Manor House at 9:30 am. The route takes us back into the hills & finds it's way out to Wendover & Princes Risborough before coming back visiting Small Dean Lane again! Cost is 3. All the HQ's have ample parking & refreshments with toilets.
