PARROT PRINT/TAL NEWSLETTER #1

In this hopefully the first of a regular feature for the team and supporters, everyone can be kept up to date as to what is happening within the team, what events we hope to ride and when racing commences, a brief resume of certain events.

The team presentation arrangements are well advanced and we are working closely with the NKRF on this presentation and on the following training ride. A 6 man team (new signing Dean Shannon from Southend on Sea will be training in Majorca-dont know what is wrong with Southend at this time of year perhaps -- Andy will enlighten us!) will ride an approximate 63 mile circuit starting and finishing at Tescos in Serpentine Green. The public will be invited to guess the time the boys take and the nearest guess will win a 75 shopping voucher. All proceeds from this event will go to the National Kidney Research Fund

After showing off the new racing kit and new Orbea bikes, individual members hopefully will discuss our racing program with the local media barons and any interested parties. From noon onwards the team will take to the roads. Afterwards the boys will disperse to their respective homes and start gearing up for the first races. The first main events of the new season will be the Wadley memorial race in Colchester and the Fenland Clarion race at nearby Great Gidding where we should field a 5 man team. The first Premier Trophy race will be Archer International at Beaconsfield. It is hoped that we will field a 4 man team for this 160 km race

International events are being sort but one immediate disappointment is the cancellation of the GP Stad Vilvoorde in Belgium. Some 24 hours after being contracted to race on 18th May, the organisers have announced that because of the surprise general election called on that day, all civic facilities have been taken for the election. This is a great race and Gavin Poupart rode exceedingly well in this event last year. It is a shame but these things happen.

Team director Stanbridge is negotiating with the ZLM Tour organisers in Holland and the Tour de La Manche in Normandy but everything depends on what these organisers are able to offer to offset our substantial but necessary running costs. Everything is in place; the newer team car is ready with decals professionally fitted by Michael Murray Signs of Pidley. The new helmets, socks and gloves courtesy of Specialized have arrived as have the Continental Tyres. The new race clothing with the NKRF logos on are ready for despatch and the Powerade Isotonic drinks courtesy of Coca Cola Suppliers of Peterborough will be ready any day now.

We are going bold with the presentation as usually some 5,000 people pass through the North foyer of the Serpentine Green complex on a Saturday, Peterboroughs biggest out of town shopping complex. Hopefully the local press will do us some justice this year as we certainly get noticed around the country.

Proud to be associated with the National Kidney Research Fund
