The Scottish Provident children's cycling league in the Isle of Man gets underway on April 8th and runs all the way through to August 26th. Held every Tuesday evening on the 0.8km perimeter track at the National Sports Centre in Douglas, the league's weekly programme consists of a variety of scratch and handicap races to suit all age groups up to junior level. The opening event will be a "come and try it" night to give newcomers the chance to test the water. In 2002 over 400 youngsters took part in the series, with an average of nearly 200 turning out for each round. Scottish Provident International is sponsoring the competittion for the tenth year in succession. Last year the Manx Viking Wheelers, who started the event in 1992, formed Team Scottish Provident Isle of Man specifically for the league's competitors.
