TECHNICAL SERVICES VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT British Cycling and Manchester Velodrome are on the lookout for volunteers for their Technical Services teams. The Velodrome use the latest digital photography techniques with the equipment installed for the Commonwealth Games last year, and the team also run the timing and scoreboard services, so one of the best seats in the house is on offer to willing volunteers who want to be a part of the team. It would particularly suit existing judges and commissaires who are computer literate, but new comers without a technical knowledge of the sport would be welcome, as training is given. British Cycling operate four portable digital cameras, one in Scotland and three in England and Wales. These go to predominantly endurance road events, but are also used for top track meetings and the British Time Trial Championships. Regular operators use the Transit van supplied with each camera unit, and need to be capable of assembling the scaffold tower that the camera is positioned on. There is a new timing system being evaluated, that uses technology proved successful abroad, and operators will be needed for this new timing service. Computer literacy is needed, along with a contact e mail address to down load competitor details.
