Palmer Park Velo Prize Presentation 2003

Palmer Park Velo, based in Reading, is one of the UK�s premier cycling clubs for young riders. The club has over 60 riders and meets all through the year. The youngest rider is 4 � years old and the oldest is 15. Riders enjoy track, circuit and mountain biking with many riders competing regularly. The club held their annual prize presentation recently. Trophies were presented for rider�s achievements in the club championship that runs through the year and consists of a circuit race, a mountain bike race, a skills competition and a track event (Pursuit, sprint, bunch race and handicap). Boys and girls competed in all age categories. Riders received certificates with trophies and medals awarded to winners, second and third.

In addition a trophy was awarded to the Juvenile and Sprats riders with the most attendance points. These are awarded for attending Saturday training and racing through the year. The winners were Robert Clark and Chris Legg. The club coaches also nominate candidates for the most improved rider. This year judges were unanimous in their decision to award the trophy to Chris Bradbury.

The club also holds regular Saturday Race Days throughout the summer on the track at Palmer Park. Riders are grouped on ability not age and can move groups depending on their results. The club offers cash prizes and the lucky winners collected their prize money for their efforts.

Palmer Park Velo is based at Palmer Park Reading. The club meets each Saturday with a fixed wheel session at 09.00 and a free wheel session at 10.45. New riders are very welcome. The club has its own website: shanebenson@crowthorne64.freeserve.co.uk; Contact Shane Benson, 01344 750617
