OFF-ROAD ROUND-UP
Congratulations to the following people who recently completed a one-day Mountain Bike Commissaires course in Reading: Averil Milligan, Ashley Axten, Ray Blackwell, Lesley Farmer, Kersi Printer, Andy Walker, John Stokes and Stuart McGuiness. A course will be run in Manchester on Sunday the 18th of January at the Velodrome, with a further course to be held in Exeter during February. 6 candidates have already confirmed for Manchester, with 12 places still available. All newly qualified MTB Commissaires will be assigned a mentor during 2004 to ensure they receive the necessary experience. There's one Mountainbike race on the calendar this weekend. It's round 2 of the Probike Downhill Winter Series in Innerleithen. Practice is on Saturday 10.30am until 3.30pm and Sunday 9.30am until 11.30am. Racing commences Midday Sunday with a format of 1 timed over 3 tracks. For the Cross-Country racers interested in NPS for 2004, the series announcements will be made in January. Expect to see the format for weekend change dramatically – the sport looks set to move with the times, with events tailored to providing a whole weekend of racing and fun activities.

There's no BMX racing this weekend, but plenty of options over the following weekend. Weather permitting, Burnham BMX Club host round of their Floodlit Saturday evening series on the 27th. There will be mixed age groups and all 3 of the series events will count for points. The top 8 overall ranked riders in each category will receive trophies. On Sunday the 28th, a flashback to 80's BMX racing will be showcased at Heywood in Lancashire. The event is called the Christmas Classic. The racing is Open to any rider, and classes are to include Old Skool, Expert, Cruiser and MTB.
