Get Down to Cycling 2003 at Sandown Park
Give your season a kick start: learn from the experts,
meet the professionals, check out the latest equipment and plan your
race schedule for the year at the brand new Cycling 2003 event at Sandown
Park, over the weekend of 8 & 9 February 2003. Cycle Sport, Cycling
Weekly and British Cycling are putting their backing behind the inaugural
Cycling 2003, aimed at both the committed road cyclist and beginners
looking to introduce a competitive edge to their fitness training. The
event is co-located with Triathlon 2003 and Running 2003, with the Racecourse's
new state-of-the-art exhibition centre acting as the hub for a pacey
weekend of non-stop endurance sport-based activity.
Action
There will be exciting action to watch in the form of a series of Surrey
League Criterium cycle races on Saturday the 8th from 1.30pm. Utilising
a unique new course around the historic racecourse Grandstand and Parade
Ring the race will feature up to 50 of the region�s top cyclists battling
it out through the knockout stages to reach the final at 3:00pm.
Talent-Spotting
British Cycling will be bringing their roller racing challenge down
to the show, looking to identify the road racing talent of the future
and offering tips on technique and safety. Visitors will be invited
to complete a 250 metre test under the close scrutiny of a qualified
coach.
Improve your Technique
Throughout the weekend, a series of workshops and seminars will offer
pointers about your technique, your training regime and your nutrition.
British Cycling will be presenting seminars aimed at visitors looking
to take their first steps into the exciting world of road racing. The
subjects of cycling technique and the benefits of Computraining will
also be tackled.
Dr Auriel J Forrester will be hosting a workshop on indoor
bike training, looking at sessions for recovery, warm-up and cool-down,
increasing pedalling efficiency and thereby speed, improving climbing
technique through strength and combining speed and strength training
into power. Explanation of the concept of heart rate and power training
zones/levels.
Get Your Gear Up To Scratch
If you need to upgrade prior to the start of the season, Cycling 2003
is the place to catch up with all the manufacturers latest offerings.
Major cycle retailers will be at the show showing off the latest bikes
and frames including: Bianchi, Principia, Klein, Look, Litespeed, Regal,
Merlin, Cervelo, Airborne, Fondriest and Xenith.
Plan Your Schedule
Cycling 2003 will also offer you the chance to get your racing calendar
planned out in anticipation of the season start. A 'Club and Event Village'
for Cycling, Triathlon and Running Clubs will house all the major event
organisers who will be looking to tempt you to enter their races. As
well as the cycle racing on the Saturday there will be a 5km Fun Run
on the Sunday afternoon, and an indoor triathlon competition on Rowing
Machine/ Cycle Machine/ Treadmill running over both days.
