CYCLE 2003 – THE INTERNATIONAL CYCLE SHOW

Cycle 2003, The International Cycle Show, opens its doors to the general public on the evening of Thursday September 25 and for three days anyone with an interest in cycling will find it a veritable Aladdin’s cave – with more bikes, accessories, clothing, services and interactive features than ever before.

Not only will you be able to see and try out the very latest in technology that powers two wheels – from the racing bikes ridden in the Tour de France to recumbents – but you will be able to meet a host of personalities from all walks of life who share a common love of cycling – professional cyclists, world champion triathletes and celebrities from stage and screen.

Individual Pursuit Champion Bradley Wiggins is expected at the show as are a number of the other members of the track squad. The Tour of Spain will have first call on the other professionals but a number of former stars and celebrities from the media will be in attendance.

Building on the success of the inaugural show last year ( it attracted 18,000 visitors and has been nominated for the top industry award ), Cycle 2003 will have well over seventy bike brands to whet the appetite – not only a wide range of current models but also a preview of what will be in store in 2004.

In association with Transport for London, visitors can take part in a “Heritage Bike Ride” on the Sunday morning of the show. Participants will assemble at 9.15 a.m. for a 9.30 a.m. start and the ten mile ride will take in the historic sights of London with a stop at The London Eye for refreshments at half way. On your return to the Business Design Centre, participants can gain entry to Cycle 2003 for £5 and they will also be given a complimentary copy of “The Rough Guide to Cycling in London and a “goody bag”.

As well as a feast of new products on show, Cycle 2003 is determined to provide visitors with a most enjoyable day out by providing them with a host of interactive features.

It all starts with a special feature entitled “Cycle into Health” which begins on the special “Preview” evening on Thursday 25th September and the inter-active features will continue for the following three days that the show is open to the general public.

“Cycle into Health”, will offer a whole range of “taster” sessions to the general public at reduced rates to enable them to experience the benefits of treatments and exercise routines that are designed to promote healthy living.

“Bodylab”, the one-stop treatment centre for active people, will have a site at Cycle 2003 to provide visitors with the opportunity to find out more about a whole range of therapies used in identifying and treating complaints common to cyclists and active people whilst improving both personal performance and well-being. Twenty minute “Taster Sessions” in the disciplines of sports massage, osteopathy, reflexology and sports injury therapy will be available at a cost of £7 per session as well as advice and information from experts. : cycle2003@bodylab.co.uk

Visitors can also book to take part in Spinning* classes or also take advantage of the free twenty minute “taster sessions” that will be available at the show. Star Trac, suppliers of the UK Spinning* programme, will also be organising with Cancer Research, ( the official charity of Cycle 2003 ), an attempt on the Guinness World Record Spinning record during the course of the show.

Trainsmart, the UK’s leading company offering personalised training, will be at the show to demonstrate the performance enhancement and body fat reduction qualities of their V02 Max Assessment procedure. Trainsmart will also conduct a seminar on this topic during the course of the evening. Visitors can book a time for their assessments from the website: www.trainsmart.uk.com

All those who attend Cycle 2003 will automatically have the chance to take part in the Abus Golden Key Promotion where each day a lucky ticket number will open the Abus lock to win a £1,000 mountain bike! Abus are also providing 100 of their Manhattan 50 Shackle Locks ( £49.99 SRP ) – a smart, stylish, high security shackle lock with self-locking mechanism for ease of use – for runners up prizes.

Visitors can also test their riding skills against each other or the mighty Lance Armstrong in the TACX I MAGIC Interactive Challenge with a bike on offer for the fastest time of the show. After this you might want to indulge in something a little less hectic and try the Trailbreak Navigator Challenge where you navigate your way around the show to win a host of prizes. Don’t miss out on the chance to try out the latest bikes, under supervision, in the “Try Out Area”.

Last year the theatre was packed to watch the highly entertaining, high energy Fashion Shows. Performed by dancers from the West End and TV shows , the numbers will highlight the latest in what’s hot in cyclewear. Or, be prepared to marvel at the gravity-defying skills of the nation’s top riders as they take on a challenging outdoor obstacle course.

“The Night Zone” will feature the latest in lighting and reflective clothing and you can take in, for free, premiers of the latest cycling films at the procycling cinema.

Visitors will also appreciate the demonstration of wheel building skills by expert wheel builders sponsored by Sapim and the artistry, emotion and drama of the world’s greatest cycling events captured on film by photographer Graham Watson in the Graham Watson Gallery.

And, don’t forget that if you plan to get to the BDC by bike, take advantage of the free secure parking in the bike park, a bike health check-up and lube by Muc-off.
