NATIONAL CRITERIUM SERIES, ROUND 2, This weekend sees the second round of the National Criterium Series come to the NEC where the course for the races is scheduled to run through the show, giving those attending the show, a good look at top flight criterium action. And what a lineup there is for the main event, the Circuit Race Cup. Number 58 is a certain Malcolm Elliot who showed great form in the Archer GP and the Girvan 3-Day last weekend and with his speed and expereince of the pro crits in the 90's, he has to be one of the favourites. He will however have stiff opposition in riders of the calibre of John Tanner (Life Repair CRT) who has Mark Lovatt and Kevin Dawson to back him up. Tanner was the winner of one of the races last year when he beat Martin Ford (Arctic Shorter Rochford) who again lines up. Expereinced criterium riders Bryan Taylor (VC Londres) and George Richardson (Cycle-Ops Kona) are also racing as is the leader of the National Criterium series, Paul Pickup (Liphook Cycles). Scott Gamble, a winner already this year against top opposition, and who was 3rd in one of the races last year, rides as does top time trial rider, Stuart Dangerfield fresh back from an Aussie warm weather training holiday. Julian Ramsbotttom (Race Scene RT) who was the lone winner of one of the races last year when he got away and no-one was able to catch him races on Saturday and there are plenty of other dark horses in a field packed full of Elites. They include Gary Adamson (Ridley Racing), Simon Gaywood (CC Luton), Barrie Clarke (Giant Racing) and Kieth Haddon (Ashfield RC). In the race at 12.30, the men and women mix it up in what should be a thrilling warmup to the Circuit Cup that follows. With riders of the calibre of Brian Fleming, Ben Price, Jody Crawford, Daniel Martin, taking on a rider who was 4th in the Womens World Pursuit championship in 2002 Emma Davies and former Great Britain rider Melanie Sears, just two of the women taking part, it should be an interesting tussle for the prizes on offer. THE BIKE SHOW: The Bike Show 2003 in association with the British Heart Foundation, is the UKs premier cycling showcase event which will steer its way into The NEC, Birmingham from 25th- 27th April 2003. Now in its eighth year, this show will feature a multitude of exciting events such as Circuit Road Racing, BSX Racing, BMX Vert and Street competition with performances from some of the worlds top cycling stars. The Bike Show 2003 will also showcase more products than ever before with over 100-featured exhibitor stands with the latest bikes and the coolest gear and accessories. In 2002, The Bike Show attracted over 80 of the worlds leading riders including Steve Peat (World Downhill Champion), Greg Minnaar and Jamie Bestwick who competed in front of 30,000 fans. Covering all areas of bike riding and racing, the 2003 event will again feature the biggest stars in the biking industry competing for prize money in excess of 24,000.
