2003 BRITISH CYCLING CIRCUIT RACE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Town centre racing came to the Seaside last Sunday in the Welsh resort of Llandudno. The Rhos-On-Sea cycling club celebrated their 75th Anniversary in style by closing off the town centre (even to the point of putting up the barriers themselves!) and while the shoppers lined the barriers three deep in places, the riders provided some great racing with the climax being the mens race where the title stayed with the Downing family, as Russell Downing took over from his brother Dean (Silver) whilst World Class master Bryan Taylor (Bronze) proved he had the legs to mix it with the younger riders.

It all started in the morning with some great racing from the youth riders and then Norman Hughes had the crowd cheering long and loud as he rode away from the rest to win the support race. And then a very emotional young lady, Helen Gutteridge won the Womens title and promptly dedicated it to a man who had passed away a few days before, and who was responsible in helping get her started in the sport aged 7, Sid Standard.
