EASTERN

The Inter Regional Youth Road Race Championships and the Inter Regional Youth Track Championships are an opportunity for Eastern Region to showcase our best riders, giving them the experience of competition in an arena of a major domestic championship. Many riders in these events have gone on to join the Olympic Development Programme.

To select the Eastern Region's best we need to determine who are our most consistent and on form riders.

We are highlighting some races which will we will use as the basis of our teams selection. The coaches will also take exceptional performances in other races (such as national events) into account.

If you have any under 16 (Youth A) or under 14 (youth B), boys and girls, you would like us to consider, it would help our job as selectors if you could get them to let us know of their interest (via the email addresses below) and have them take part in the following events, so that we can monitor their progress and their results in other races..

We appreciate that there are not that many events so if anyone wishes to be considered it would be wise for them to plan to take part in all of them if possible, to take any advantage of poor weather, cancellations, mishaps etc, which my be encountered on the just one or two events that may have been contemplated upon doing.

In the event that some events may be cancelled due to the weather (mainly the track events), alternatives will be announced at the time, or just after the actual cancellation.

We have tried as best as we can to spread the events over the summer months, to give sufficient time to submit the list to the organisers, and over the whole region to make it fair on parents, concerning travel.

Also We hope We have e-mailed everyone in the region, but please accept our apologies if we have missed anyone.

If you can think of anyone we have missed please could you pass this message on or forward this e-mail to them. it would be greatly appreciated, or else tell others that it is on the British Cycling Eastern Region Website

The role of team manager and team coach can be a very rewarding experience, and a fantastic opportunity to meet some other likeminded people and see some of the best youth riders competing at the highest level at a National team event, it is a great learning environment and an opportunity for personal development.

Some of the work will involve organising and communicating with riders, managing the budgets and sorting out transport and meeting points prior to the events.

For information please contact Graeme Waters who will be able to advice and direct you to those persons who have been a team manager/coach in previous years who can offer advice on the role.

Managers and coaches who are interested for volunteering at these events are required to submit an expression of interest and CV to Rob Sharman no later than Sunday the 17th February 2013.

This is still open at the moment The managers/coaches will be selected and ratified by the Regional Board

Those successful will be notified provisionally of their selection before 28th February 2013.

The successful Team Mangers and Team Coaches will have at their earliest opportunity thereafter to consider riders available to form part of a squad for selection.

Selection Criteria;

Both Manager and Coach have to have a valid CRB check and a current first aid certificate.

The manager does not need to have a discipline specific coaching award but knowledge of the event and discipline would be preferable.

The Team Coach is required to have at the minimum a British Cycling level 2 Coaching award, and the level 2 specific discipline award. Applications from volunteers to act as shadow coaches and team staff are also encouraged to apply as there may be funding available to send a 3rd team staff member to the IRTC and IRMC.

NORTH EAST

The British Cycling Inter-Regional Youth Championships provide some of the best rider development opportunities in the calendar and the highest standards of competition. Each year there are three events, one each for Track, Road and Mountain Bike. The UK School Games will each year double as the inter regional championships for one of the disciplines; this rotates on an annual basis.

In addition to the fantastic opportunities these events present for some of the region’s youth riders, there are also some great development opportunities for aspiring team managers and coaches.

The North East Board will be appointing three team managers to manage teams at each of the three events. In addition, there will also be a coach appointed for each of the championships. This will provide a wide range of opportunities to the region’s volunteers to get involved in the event most appropriate to their discipline specific knowledge and experience. Offering positions to different individuals for each discipline will increase the sustainability of the region’s youth development pathway by providing development opportunities for a larger number of volunteers. The process will be renewed on an annual basis.

2013 Events and Dates (currently subject to change and not confirmed)

  • Inter-Regional Track Champs, Newport or Glasgow 23rd-25th August 2013

WEST MIDLANDS

Update: Qualifying events for Inter-Regional XC

Due to a date change from the original and the unsuitability of the event format it has been decided that:

  • The Midland XCM round at Hanchurch, Staffordshire on 23rd June will not count as a scoring event.
  • The Midland XCO Rd 4 at Eastridge, Shropshire on 11th August will now be included as a scoring event for West Midland rider selection.

Team selection will be made after 11th August and all riders notified as soon as possible after this date.

For any riders who have ridden in other nominated selection events but cannot compete at Eastridge on 11th August, and who none-the-less wish to be considered for selection, please notify the Team Manager for the West Midlands Team, Belinda Tarling at boocoaching@gmail.com.

In 2013, the West Midlands Region will again be selecting teams of youth riders to take part in three fantastic Inter-Regional Championship events.

The highest profile of these in 2013 is the UK School Games, which this year will be an Inter-Regional Road Championship.  This will take place on the 13-15 September.

Backed by the Youth Sport Trust and National Lottery, the School Games is a multi-million pound sporting event; effectively a Youth Olympics complete with opening / closing ceremonies etc.

Around 2500 young athletes will stay together in an athletes village, be mentored by Olympic Champions, and compete for their Regions across 12 different Olympic and Paralympic disciplines.  The cycling events will be contested between teams of Youth riders from British Cycling’s 10 English regions, plus Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Before the UKSG, the Inter-Regional Track Championship which will take place from the 23-25 August. A final decision on a venue is yet to be made, but is likely to be Newport or Glasgow.

Last but by no means least, the Inter-Regional MTB Championship will take place from 27-29 September. Provisionally, this will take place at Hadleigh Farm in Essex, using the superb facilities in place.

Selection criteria

Selection criteria for the West Midlands team has been discussed and set down by a representative Region-wide coaches panel, seeking to provide certainty and openness to riders over their ability to obtain selection for these events.  Further the selection criteria is supported by the main Regional Board members.

Accordingly, selection of the riders to represent the West Midlands Regional Teams will be based upon performances in events as follows:

UKSG Inter-Regional Road Championship – Sheffield - September 13-15 (4 Males and 4 Females)

Riders three best performances out of the following eight races will count for selection.  For 2013 the Region is keen to provide an opportunity for riders from all disciplines to seek selection for the UKSG, hence why selection is based upon a riders three best performances.  Reducing the number of counting events will make it realistic for many other riders (for example MTB XC racers) to engage with the process.
